In 2025, Fysnet started as one of the projects funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture with the aim of enhancing synergies and collarobation between universities in Finland and provide university students with flexible study opportunities.

FysNet project began with identifying relevant materials and courses for the national course offering and forming sub-networks. Eventually, 15 thematic groups were established, each focusing on a different area of physics (e.g. "space and astrophysics", "nuclear and particle physics", "numerical physics", "semiconductor physics", etc.).

As the result, nearly 120 university educators from nine universities of Finland came together to discuss what courses should and can be offered through FysNet. The discussions coordinated by the University of Jyväskylä led to the list of 52 courses.

In the study year 2026-2027, even 44 courses are available for students.
